Note: Most of the major art museums are open today, generally with regular hours. Of particular interest are the three shows about Coney Island at the Brooklyn Museum. Combining both art and artifacts, they tell an alternately delightful and appalling story of the rise and fall of a working-class playground. The paintings of the resort by Reginald Marsh, Arnold Mesches, and Frederick Broesen are alone worth the trip, but there is so much more, including photographs from the Brooklyn Collections of the Museum and the Brooklyn Public library demonstrating the evolution of the area.
