Art & Design Events, New York, Sunday, 7 September 2014

The annual opening night of the art spaces on the Lower East Side occurs today, with most of the galleries participating. For those who expect cutting edge art, something different from the Chelsea/Berlin esthetic, this is not the area to visit. While the spaces on lower Orchard Street are generally smaller than those in the Twenties, there has been an influx or much larger venues, especially on Broome Street and the corridors of Norfolk and Suffolk. And the prices are not much different.

As part of the opening night celebration, there are many events scheduled, including performances and special presentations at many of the stores that line the streets where the poor once shopped. There is even a Pop-Up Whole Foods Market arriving; this is truly avant garde. All is detailed on the LES Art + Fashion website
