Art & Design Events, New York, Labor Day, 2 September 2019
There are no art or design receptions, talks, or events scheduled for today. Museums generally have regular hours; check with any venue before going. All commercial galleries and most showrooms are closed for the Holiday. The art and design Fall Season begins tomorrow, with hundreds of galleries and shelter stores announcing new exhibitions and special presentations during the next few weeks. Unfortunately, several art spaces have closed, most notably Lennon, Weinberg; and Julie Saul had announced a move to the building housing Rizzoli, where she will operate a project space. However, there are new dealers optimistically announcing openings, including Monica King, who has taken a space in Tribeca, which is becoming a new art center. Bushwick’s scene seems to be contracting rapidly, with NURTUREart the most significant to cease operations this summer. Skyrocketing rents on the Lower East Side have put pressure on many of the less well-funded dealers there. Some gallerists have been scouting locations in Gowanus and Sunset Park, where the rents, while rising, are still relatively affordable. Porcelanosa is opening a huge new showroom in the Industry City area. It promises to be an interesting time for the business of art and design.

It is very sad that the art world has to suffer because the greediness of the landlords. I can't wait to see what Porcelanosa has to offer!!!
