Art & Design Events, New York, Thursday, 4 September 2014

On the first major opening day of the Fall season, there are many dozens of galleries with new exhibitions in almost every art district in the city. But perhaps the most promising is the museum-quality presentation by Loretta Howard in Chelsea: Irving Sandler: Out of 10th Street Into the 60s. Encompassing works by Ronald Bladen, Mark di Suvero, Lois Dodd, Al Held, Alex Katz, and Alice Neel, the show is a tribute to the critic Irving Sandler, considered by some as the most significant voice in art criticism in the generation that immediately succeeded Clement Greenberg and Harold Rosenberg.
