MoMA 11 W 53 exhibition: Robert Rauschenberg: Among Friends now open NOTE: An exhaustive exhibition, filling an entire floor of the museum, this show examines the creative currents that swirled around Rauschenberg and his friends, some of the most innovative artists of the time. It also points up the evanescence of so much of the greatest work of the Sixties and Seventies and the fact that the artists were not then concerned with archival materials, documentation, and preservation, but production in the heat of the moment. As Rauschenberg himself said to several friends and lovers, preservation was a problem for future generations, not for the creators.
