Art & Design Events, New York, Friday, 13 March 2020

ADVISORY: Virtually all major museums in the city are closing down at least for the next two weeks, if not longer, because of the COVID-19 virus. This includes the Metropolitan Museum, MoMA, the Guggenheim, the Whitney, the Jewish Museem, the American Museum of Natural History, the New Museum, and many others. Mana Contemporary in Jersey City is also closed. Most non-profit art spaces are ceasing all public programs in order to protect the public and their employees. Some of the biggest commercial galleries in New York, including Pace and David Zwirner, are also shuttering their New York spaces to the public. Others will continue to operate, but with reduced hours and no receptions or events. Many smaller spaces will be open only by appointment for the next few weeks or with severely curtailed hours. Always check before going to any gallery. Almost all colleges and universities have closed for the new few weeks; they have no public events occurring, including the annual open studios at institutions like the School of Visual Arts, the New School, and Hunter College. The Other Art Fair, scheduled for the end of April in Brooklyn, has been postponed; other forthcoming expositions have not sent information on their plans.
