More and more galleries with resources are developing their online presence beyond basic information, both on their own websites and on platforms like Instagram. Tilton Gallery just posted its current exhibitions on the latter.
Petzel now has an online viewing platform, accessible at the gallery’s site https://www.petzel.com/ A current offering is Private View: Selections from ABHK.
Independent curators are also creating online exhibitions and newsletters addressing current concerns. The writer-curators Barbara Pollack and Anne Verhallen have created How Can We Think of Art at a Time Like This? An Online Exhibition that is of particular interest; it includes Lynn Hershman Leeson, Judith Bernstein, Janet Biggs, Miao Ying, Dread Scott and Jenny Polak, Kathe Burkhart, and Zhao Zhao, at this time. It repays frequent revisiting, with a dtrong comments page. The exhibition and its resources may be viewed at https://artatatimelikethis.com/
Many galleries without deep funding are facing bankruptcy. In order to provide some aid, the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) is leading a petition drive on change.org to be sent to New York City government officials asking for help. The petition, COVID-19 Relief for NYC Art Galleries, Artists, and Art Workers, has nearly 6,000 signatures so far. It may be accessed at https://www.change.org/p/covid-19-relief-for-nyc-art-galleries-artists-and-art-workers
