All art events in the city have been cancelled. Galleries, both commercial and not-for-profit, are closed, though most have posted exhibitions online, where purchases are possible. We can all hope that sales in this manner will help to save the art ecosystem, with its tens of thousands of artists, staff, owners, handlers, landlords, publishers, and the ancillary businesses involved in bringing art to the world. Their livelihood is now tenuous at best. Virtually all museums, libraries, and universities are also shuttered. Some design showrooms have closed, but not all; almost all have posted their products on their websites and are promising deliveries.
